EU-Parlamentet adopted the 2022 Digital Services Package, which includes the The Digital Marktets Act as well as the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DMA regulates the largest digital companies and functions as a complement to the EU’s competition rules. DMA focuses on digital markets where large technology companies act as ”gatekeepers” by providing ”core platform services” such as search engines, app stores, social networks and messaging apps.
As of March 6, 2024, DMA became mandatory for the six major tech giants Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta and Microsoft.
