This visualised drone simulation is only the beginning – next year, we aim to take to the skies for real – at least according to Svante Swärd Rudstrom, Business Developer at Norrköping Airport.
Yesterday, at Norrköping Airport, the simulated drone flight between Norrköping and Visby was demonstrated. Approximately 300 metres above sea level and travelling at 125 km/h, Dufour’s Aero2 carries out a medical transport from Visby to Vrinnevi Hospital in Norrköping, while the Skeldar V200 takes off from Norrköping Airport, makes a course change to identify a suspected oil spill at sea, and then continues along its planned route to the industrial port in Visby.
The purpose of the simulated flight is, among other things, to prepare for flight permits, conduct risk analyses in accordance with SORA, review safety systems and challenges over international waters, as well as to highlight the significant collaboration between municipalities and regions – and above all, the societal benefits this kind of operation could bring.
Anna Jacobsson (Region Östergötland), Mikael Renholm (Jetpak), Svante Swärd Rudstrom Svärd Rudström (Norrköping Airport), Catarina Lindholm (AirMobility), Martin Rantzer (LiU), Michael Savback (Savback), and Tobias Tevell (Skeldar) formed the panel for a Q&A session together with the rest of the engaged audience. Even though we are all working to drive progress in the industry, the topic was not met with unreserved enthusiasm. The demand for drone expertise is high, and the technology itself is largely ready. However, everyone agreed that it is primarily regulations and flight permits that are slowing down the development and use of drones in society – yet we are, at the same time, well on our way. After all, the future is already here!
This is a fantastic collaboration between Science Park Gotland, Norrköping Science Park, Norrköping Airport, Jetpak Group, UTMCity, AirMobility, Airwiz, Linköpings universitet, and several drone companies, with financial support from Aero EDIH.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in today’s event!
In just a few weeks, the simulation film and further information will be published to help spread knowledge and engagement. Stay tuned!
